Shut the Folk Up

Shut the Folk Up •

Folk, Etc. is a monthly First Friday listening-room event showcasing the artistry of songwriters in an intimate, acoustic setting.

Each show features a combination of local and touring artists, blending live performance with conversation, storytelling, and audience interaction.

With a single Ear Trumpet mic, an intimate stage setup, and a focus on songwriting, Folk, Etc. offers a space where original music is deeply appreciated and stories take center stage.

Our Story

Folk, Etc. was inspired by a cozy gathering of songwriting nerds tucked away in living rooms. A place for dedicated song makers to share new material, give thoughtful feedback, drink too much wine for a weeknight, and encourage each other to write something new each month.

Over the years, we noticed something special happening. Beyond accountability, deepening practice, and creative encouragement, we found genuine connection through songwriting in community. These gatherings around the hearth of storytelling through music are full of banter, laughter, and honesty.

It became clear that we had something special that we didn’t want to just keep to ourselves.

Inspired by those intimate gatherings, we dreamed up a public event where these magical, raw, behind-the-scenes moments could be shared openly with the community.

Not as a traditional “show”, but as an event that draws the audience into the story, too. Not as a polished performance, but an unedited encounter with the Muse. This is a space for the songs that are alive with the vitality that inspired their creation. The songs that are in-process and in-bloom. There is magic in the song that is still deeply felt by its writer, and we aim to capture that magic at Folk, Etc.

WHO WE ARE

THE FOLK, ETC. TEAM

  • Vision Keeper

Adam is the guy with the vision and the connections to make it happen. He is a songwriter, excursionist, father, and tenant of the earth. Some of his music and songwriting projects include his solo work, The Sways, and Mergence.

  • Sound Magician

Kyle Miller helps to bring Folk, Etc. to life with his creative vision and mastery in the sound booth. Kyle is a songwriter and touring artist with Towr’s and The Sways. He is also a sound engineer, mixer and producer through his studio Lore Sound Provisions.

  • MC and Marketing Witch

Jacqueline is the fairy up on stage chatting up the songwriters and making the audience co-write silly songs with her during intermission. She is also the communication queen that tackles marketing and promotion for the event! She is a local songwriter and member of the indie folk dup Sleep Stampede, and hosts a monthly songwriting club which was the inspiration behind the creation of Folk, Etc.
